Top Al-Qaeda Man Dies by U.S. Hellfires

Ayman Al-Zawahiri, an Egyptian doctor, who could be described as an extremist Muslim, dedicated to making his movement of Islam an organization of influence, and successor to the notorious Osama bin Laden, was killed on a balcony in Kabul, Afghanistan. It is still unknown which part of the Taliban in that country supported or permitted him to have space and freedom of stay there.

The Taliban has been in control of the war-ravaged country for almost a full year now. Our troops cleared out last year, a long hot summer, as province after province fell to the Taliban, a violent group that had been ousted back in 2001.

Zawahiri was hunted by the U.S., Coalition, and Afghan federal forces for a long time. Since 2001, and more so after bin Laden's death in May of 2011.

There will be innumerable reports of this happening, this development in the "Long War" against terrorism. I have a few insights and opinions about this case, and the greater macro picture. However, with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi visiting Taiwan and being threatened by the People's Republic of China, Russia pummeling Ukraine, and Iran and North Korea doing their work as rogue states, but in cahoots with some of the above, a group like Al-Qaeda (meaning the base), does not seem like the biggest existential threat to Americans and the greater world.

However, scores were meant to be levied by the U.S. government, and thus it has occurred this summer. After twenty years of sometimes intense and at times less effusive efforts. As I just saw in a television show, it stated that military intervention usually does not turn out to be an effective way of solving problems.

Hammering out moles and rats is not always the best way to protect the garden, but those in the security business have their ways of solving problems.

I hope that good Muslims do not consider this a loss, but only another extremist that became an enemy not only to the greater world, but an enemy of the truer, more peaceful doctrines and practices of their huge religion.

Hellfires are missiles launched from an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), or drone.

    The Doctor was 71 years-old.
