Nelson Cruz: Quite A Night, Quite a Career
Last night in Nats Park the struggling hometown side got some clutch hits from their oldest player, first year Nat (or did we get him last year?) Nelson Cruz, the 39th best all-time home run hitter. He tied the game with a huge 2 RBI double, and then got the game winning home run against the Cubs. The Cubs are not that great, granted, but the Nats have been bottoming out. Since last year. No, since the pandemic-shortened season of 2020. Since the World Series of 2019.
Nelson has done a lot. Good that there is now a Designated Hitter in the National League. Thanks, corona virus pandemic! Well, things have changed the last few years. Cruz has not changed too much, and getting things done at 42.
Years. Old. Not bad.
He is the third highest hitting batter of homers still playing, after Cabrera and Pujols. Hall of Famer? The next two months may favor him. I hope so.
Meanwhile, they activated speedster future short stop C.J. Abrams, and my personal fav Papa Joey Meneses from Culiacan, Mexico, who is popping the ball hard.
He finally made the majors at age 30. Great story. We cannot be the best every year...
