The Padres get La Verdad, Juan Soto - 2022 is Looking Good for the Never-Have
The rumors bore true: soon-to-be all-time great (assuming he stays healthy, as we see Mike Trout missing games with his body, Bryce Harper out with a broken thumb) Juan the Baby Bambino Soto has been traded to the never-have-won-it-all Padres.
I will say now that the Padres are my third favorite team in the major leagues. Why? Three main reasons.
1. They now have one of my favorite players of all time, the one that I have nicknamed "The Truth". Forever a Nat hero from 2019, a team that ranks among my favorites ever. Soto in his second year made D.C., the former Expos, my favorite team since 1981, World Series victors. Thank you Juan, and thanks to the former Nationals that made it happen, most who have moved on, like Max Scherzer, Trea Turner, Anthony Rendon. And others.
2. They have never won the all-time crown, the Fall Classic. Only been there twice. Some teams have won it too much: the Yanks, the Cards, the Red Sox (whuh?), the Dodgers. We would rather have a historical underdog.
3. The San Diego Fathers are in the National League West Division, which does not rub up against the Nats as much as nearby rivals New York, Philadelphia, or Atlanta. Even the so-so Florida Marlins have owned the Nationals 12 out of 13 games this season. Oy. Ve. Soto cannot hurt the Nats as much.
4. I look forward to seeing Soto go on with his skill and greatness, perhaps surpassing Bryce Harper, another former Nat that I like to track through his career.
Where do Juan (age 23) and Bryce (age 29) stand as a National, and now a Phillie, respectively?
