Nichelle Nichols - Played Lieutenant Ohura

Nichelle Nichols - Played Lieutenant Ohura

    She lived long and prospered.

Most well known for playing a deck officer on the fictitious Star Ship Enterprise, she just died at the end of July, 2022.

Known for many things as an early Black actor/actress on the television of yesteryear, she was a classically trained singer. She did the eponymous sci-fi classic, which started in the 1960s and lead to quite a few films in the 1980s, mostly.

One of my favorite Martin Luther King, Jr. stories involves her. She thought Star Trek was below her talent and craft, (which it was), but the Reverend told her that this program was the only one that he let his children stay up later to watch, and that "she was where we (people of color) wanted to be. So she stayed for the second season, and the rest is history. And I would say a good one.

She is definitely a part of my life, part of my thoughts and conscious, sub-conscious, my mental universe. And many others. Blessings to her family, friends, and the rest of us for having been graced by her presence.

    Which was formidable.

    Thank you, Ms. Nichols.

Life well done; character well played.
