Home School Fans Episode 3: Week 2 - Other Notables

Home School Fans Episode 3: Week 2 - Other Notables

I talked about the seven teams that I am tracking this season in 2022, plus a little about Alabama and Georgia. I had a few more thoughts about some other teams.

The military service academies? Air Force is pretty good, ranked 44th by CBS, but pasting PAC-12 non-power Colorado, 41-10. Ouch, PAC-12! Lucky that Washington State upset Wisconsin and Oregon State clipped Fresno State. Otherwise, the PAC-12 is looking weaker than usual, as Utah lost in the Swamp (barely) and the Ducks were fileted by the Bulldogs of Georgia. The Falcons (right?) have Wyoming next. I take the Airmen.

Army is dropping; they lose to Coastal Carolina to open the season, then they lose to Texas State San Antonio in Over Time, 41-38. Now at 0-2, CBS has the Knights at 77th, and they next face Villanova (FCS team) at home in West Point. They better win that. I presume that Army is better than Navy; the Cadets have fallen on hard times.
Army: You better get better, or it's back to basement where you were for a long time.

Navy: Now 0-2, rated 125th by CBSSports.com, they lost to FCS Delaware, then next zapped by Memphis, 37-13. They get this weekend off, and then face the East Carolina Pirates on September 24. I do not see things getting better for Ken Niumatalolo. Sorry, man. Life is not too good in Annapolis right now. At least the big Navy is not fighting China across the straits of Taiwan. Some solace.

Who else? Teams from last season, in my Desert Fans year of 2021?

Georgia. Killing everybody, next victim: South Carolina. Roasted Gamecock. Delicious.

Clemson. Weak opponents so far. Next victim: Louisiana Tech. Gulp.

Miami. Powerful now. Next game: now vulnerable looking Texas A&M. I am liking me some Hurricanes. Then again, the Aggies might be steaming mad... ESPN thinks the Miami quarterback is awfully good...  Fun to watch.

Auburn. 2-0, likely on small game. Now for Penn State. Good luck, War Eagle. Lions like birds of prey. As a post meal snack.

Notre Dame. Yikes! First the tough game against the mighty Buckeyes, then the crazy home loss to the Sun Belt's newest Thundering Herd. We are: Marshall! Paging Matthew McConnaghy! Irish must beat Cal Bears at home, or else... My coworker will be at the game. The first of three. That is nuts, like the Irish's season so far. Must right the ship...

Who has the worst ranking by CBS with a record unblemished, among undefeated teams? JMU, 2-0. Big game this Saturday. Appy State.

Who has the second worst ranking undefeated? Tulane at 93, after puds UMess (Massachusetts, that's a thing from ESPN's Bottom 100), and Alcorn State, I think an FCS HBCU. That is a lot of letters acronymically. Now? Kansas State. Should be a crushing.

How many top teams that are undefeated before the first with a loss? 16. Who is number 17, at 1-1? Utah. Right behind them at 1-1, number 18? Baylor. Hah! BYU is better so far! Luckier, too. An easier Florida match on the road to open, for sure. And the Bears of Texas had to travel.

How many other unblemished schedules after Baylor? 33, by my count. Including James Madison and Tulane. Perhaps Week 3 will cut those undefeated in half.

There are almost 50 left. Not for long.

    Enjoy.
