Higher Laws - A Day Apart
It is a long weekend, and at its center is the Sabbath day for Christians. For most Christians this is true; there are a few exceptions, like Messianic Jews and Seventh Day Adventists, who worship and rest before Sunday. Or there are people of my Christian denomination that live in places where Jewish or Muslim faith believers and followers are predominant, and people of my Sunday Sabbath practice will dedicate that other day to their focal point of weekly spirituality or worship. Point is, there is a weekly time to give our devotions to a higher power, and that weekly practice, its rituals, actions, and spirit are focused and more ritualized one day per week. Or a variation of that.
I love the Sabbath, or for me Sunday, for many reasons. I find that people of my faith community come together to prove and uphold a few things.
1. God, or the Lord, deserve their devotions. We put Him and Them above our own wants for a time. Paradoxically, we feel that they remunerate us with blessings and benefits that enhance our own community and individual lives. In that sacred moment we receive a transcendental gift, as many of us believe. Peace, reconciliation, hope, renewal. Rebirth. Forgiveness. Community. Unity. Union. Many other things.
2.
I let this sit for over a month... Will send it now.
