Home School Fans Episode 10 - Week 9; or 10 - Part One - BYU!

 Home School Fans Episode 10 - Week 9 and10

It has been hard for us BYU Cougar and IU Hoosier fans in October of 2022. BYU went 0-4, and I believe the Hoosiers were 0-4 also. Two of the games were winnable for the latter, and even all four should have been so for the former. November will be better for one, anyway...

    BYU Rights the Ship. Barely.

Whew. Relief. Against a higher ranked and better performing team, the Boise State Broncos, the Cougars finally lived up to some pre-season and early season expectations, and got a clutch 4th and 6 at the goal line and won. Whew! Man, that could havc been another nail in a sad coffin. But no! Puka Nacua makes the immaculate catch in the left end zone side and secure the go-ahead score, and the defense follows suit. Whew.

Previous years against the Broncos, in Idaho and Utah, had gone awry. A few had come our way, but in 2005, a normal missed field goal cost the Cougars a winning season, leaving them 5-6, and the coach was released largely as a result of that and other key failures. In 2012, all-stud Taysom Hill was stuffed at the goal line and BYU missed the extra two and lost in regulation instead of going to overtime, when the defense was dominant. (Broncos had only scored on a offensive miscue turnover.)

In 2019, (I think), BYU needs a goal line end of clock score to win, is stuffed, and loses. I was lying in my single-man tent, very late at night, far from all in the universe, as my phone was dying, and we... lost.

Last year, a rather fantastic season where BYU was beating all the PAC-12 and others, we give up 5 or more turnover to Boise, and it mars a regular season to 10-2, eventually 10-3 with the bowl loss.

And an Idaho fan gloated over the win the next day at church. Ummmmmmm...

So, Jaren Hall, the much-hyped Coug QB, gets some redemption. BYU gets to 5-5 after a horrendous four run streak of frustration against the Irish, the Razorbacks, the Flames, and the Pirates of East Carolina. The last game and loss boiled down to not getting fourth down conversions. So this score against BSU was HUGE.

Ahhh, I must bask on only this.

    End of Part One!
