Old Stuff Brings an Interesting Image - Joseph Smith Jr. 1805-1844

Mormon founder Joseph Smith's photo discovered by descendant after nearly 180 years (religionnews.com)

Based on drawings, movies, or other imaginations of him all my life (since the 1970s), the assassinated presidential candidate and claimed modern day Prophet, Seer, and Revelator, and translator of the Book of Mormon and a restorer of many things, looks different than I imagined.

I thought his eyes would be bigger, or his face softer. I think this picture reminds me of Brigham Young and other early church leaders. Those of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints may have an interesting time perusing this image, as if a Jew or Christian were to see what Moses looked like in reality, or a Christian with Paul, Peter, or Jesus Himself. The Muslims would not want to see the Prophet Mohammed, as this would be wrong for them. What if we saw Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha), or Confucious or any other ancient wise person who has influenced millions, billions, over millennia?

Smith died in 1844. Not ancient history, but an influential ever aging persona.

    Blog it.
