Fantasy, Fiction, Reality, Truth

    Where do we lie? I can slide between them. Some accuse those of us of religious convictions as positing too much into things of less evidence or empirical truth. Thus, for the secular and atheist world: fantasy and fiction can be the realms of the holy writ and organized faiths over the centuries and millennia. 

    We live in the post-modern world of so many stories, narratives, entertainments. George Lucas alone has spawned thousands of characters and story lines that are fantasy and fiction. Many of us are involved and invested in them. I finished up "Skeleton Crew" yesterday, which was not the best plot or episodic series made, but it engaged us in the time to watch and the millions of dollars to produce it. Just Saturday it came up with a couple co-workers. We talked about a myriad of the stories and characters of the Star Wars universe, including many inspired and created by video games, as a 1997 anthology of Star Wars stories has also shown that this has been an active part of the overall creation of more stories and by-products of that fictitious world. 

    I am now reading the 2015 book called "The Fellowship: The Literary Lives of the Inklings". I wanted the original Inklings that my father borrowed from our neighbors the Zellers, about the association of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and others in England who combined their talents to compose some of the works and ideas that have pushed us ever since. Both Narnia and Middle-Earth were and still are formidable parts of my and so many peoples' lives. 

    Last night my children were watching the second part of Dune, the epic invented by Frank Herbert. There are thousands of fiction and fantasy writers and co-creators, more all time, who interweave their  thoughts and magical ideas in the milieu of the 21st century. We have Star Trek, the Marvel Universe, and hundreds and hundreds of other universes, to include DC and others.

    Plus our religious narratives. Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, all the rest. Even the political schemes and programs, like socialism and Communism, and economic plans that alight throughout the world. The Russianization themes that push Putin and others in Ukraine, the tribal ethos or agendas that motivate the peoples of places in Africa or the Middle East to sometimes battle or wage war. The movements across Latin America or the entire earth to move where people do, the businesses and markets that move all of us in some way or another. Politics, governments, initiatives, rulings, laws and their enforcements.

    Where are we in the world of reality and truth? Do we all succumb to death and taxes? I believe so.

    How much time and effort to we spend in each realm?

    Where do we stand?

    Where does it all bring us?
