Argentine Pontiff Passes, age 88
Back in 2013 he took over from the retiring German Joseph Ratzinger. He was the first Holy See from the "Global South". He was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, and became Pope Francis.
He lived and led as a successful priest and Catholic servant by all accounts.
Whether we believe in Christianity or the Apostolic Roman Church, we recognize his piousness, his dedication and goodness. I think he was a good or even great man.
He got sick lately, but seemed to have recovered. 88 is a decent age to reach.
My own father turns 88 in a few short months.
Where those make it to by those ages is interesting, I always find.
In some ways my dad has a greater legacy, just a retired electrician in southern Indiana, because his three children and their children, my father's grandchildren, leave his DNA and bloodline across the earth.
My father held the priesthoods within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which claims to have the true priesthood and authority of God and Jesus, in contrast with the line of high priests the Roman faith purports to.
Not to take away from this very famous and influential man, but we of other faiths with Christendom have other ways of seeing the world and worship.
Thus the legacy of the each man of God has his impact in the name of Jesus.
God bless his legacy and memory. Rest in peace and blessings this day after Easter, 2025.
I have known my share of Argentines. A great nation and people in many senses.
ReplyDeleteNPR just said that the Catholic Church was a "two thousand year institution". That, according to Roman history. Not true to me or others, however. Constantine made Rome the around 300 AD. The Christians had various sects for 300 years prior, since the Apostles of Jesus and Christ Himself. 2,000 versus 1700, potato/potata? Not to me.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, these are details. Only that?
