Read a Book about the Sea: What is Out There?
My wife is reading the book Endurance, about Shackleton's crazy adventure in the far South Seas/ antarctic. That is sweet, recommended by my oldest daughter. I love reading in general, but books about real life and places that we may never see or experience is amazing. It helps the mind enfold and understand, I believe.
We, all of us humans, have to read and learn about the sea. It is part of who we are, because our planet is composed of it, and we need to know what the toils and beauties of it are. It is vast. A bit like space, too, and science and science fiction stories help us there.
The salt and fresh water seas are there in literature for us to engage in: Herman Melville, not just Moby Dick but the classic Billy Budd, Sailor. The travel author Paul Theroux does quite a bit about the sea and oceanic places, I need to read more. He likes to kayak on some it. Jack London wrote Sea Wolf, a fun read. Many of us have read versions of Robinson Crusoe, a bit about the ocean, by default. Or the classic Lord of the Flies.
There are many more, but we must read them. Life and existence without the oceans and the seas is rather only part of the story of who we are.
What have you read about the ocean? Have you written about it?
Space is out there, too, another vast expanse to navigate.
Like the endless oceans of literature to choose from...
Enter at your own risk, and come out like Ernest Hemingway, no more worn for the wear.
The Old Man and the Sea, and all the Arthur C. Clarke books...
Dive in, and see you back at dinner. Maybe.
