Why Do We Stone and Slay Our Prophets?

Numbered reasons beyond an expository may suffice.

1.  People generally and specifically resist and resent authority, those who claim to wield it or those who claim to invoke a divine or powerful authority above or over others.

2.  Many so called prophets are false and delusional, and cause a great deal of harm. Many should not be trusted or heeded.

3. People increasingly do not believe in any type of authority other than empirical science. Lack of the belief in higher powers eliminates the middle men, if it were.

4. Prophets, even if they seem wise or correct, do not often proclaim and preach things that the people want to hear. Or follow.

5. People resist what they do not know, understand, or agree with sad bouts of violence and contempt.
