A Holiday Dedicated to a Great American

Martin Luther King, Junior Day

My high school teacher in the 1980s said that MLK stood for three things that were worthy of defense: the US Constitution, pacifism and being Christian and living by Bible principles.

He seemed to know that someone would kill him. Similar, in my mind, to former leaders of causes like Joseph Smith, Jr. and Abraham Lincoln. And the Kennedys, I guess, suffered the same fate.

But some causes are worthier and riskier than others.

May his memory and causes live on.

Edward M.
