Who not Win it All: As Usual, no Bluebloods: Of Course, not IU - As Per Usual
Any Big Ten Team would be welcome. I am okay with a Big 12 team winning it all, except for Kansas. Sorry, Hunter Dickinson. Time to take your well balanced, large frame to the National Basketball Association. You had your time at Michigan, now Kansas... No more Kansas! A powerhouse since the 1950s, finally getting their rings.
But speaking of no more: no more UConn! Two in a row? Five in the last 26 years? Ay, yai, yai, the Huskies have been better than the Hoosiers for generations now. I am getting so old waiting for IU to be relevant again.
There are other things: Wars, climate change, religious movements and happenings. Literature, art and film, music. All things that I do enjoy and derive interest and pleasure in. Things that motivate and stimulate me. But I get distracted and too sidetracked by these games and programs and uniforms. I am a little bit like John Feinstein (God rest his soul, recently passed), only I am not silly enough to care too much about golf. Basketball is more egalitarian, more available to the masses. People from our worst (poorest, most dangerous, crime-ridden).Larry Bird, famous white hick from French Lick, by the way, more in the hillbilly mode of the current de jour J.D. Vance than any suburban athlete, grew up with an alcoholic father in the middle of rural southern Indiana. It is not all race, it is not all urban ghetto.
Poverty and basketball can touch all corners of our great country and the planet. Now we have talent coming from all continents. Short Filipinos love the sport... And are good at it.
Back to hating on all these blue blood men's basketball teams in 2025.
Duke: no, no, no! Too much! After the legendary Calhoun, University of Connecticut kept going. Now Duke post Coach K? (Still cannot spell that Polish name...) No! Cooper Flagg is amazing. Let him get his championships at the next level. Maybe the Wizards? Sounds good.
No North Carolina. Who else in the ACC? They are down. Clemson? Louisville? If the Cards do it, than IU will be primed next year, as history goes. (1980, 1986, 2012 or so...)
Okay, so there that is. No Florida. 2007 and 2008 is too soon. Too much.
Yes. No UConn, no Duke, no Kansas, no Carolina, and of course no Kentucky.
Did I sum up my hate and hostility to the teams that should not win?
Big Ten teams: Michigan State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Michigan, Maryland. Anyone else? Oregon, but not UCLA. Ducks would do it since the World War II era, like IU. But we do not want the Bruins, even though 1995 has been a long time. The Wooden Era was enough.
Okay with Houston? Alabama? Auburn? Tennessee?
Sure, okay. Gonzaga would be all right, but better St. Mary's. That would be something.
Missouri, Arizona, Texas Tech, Iowa State? Fine.
BYU would be the ultimate. Could they? Too many weaknesses, like ball control or passing the best.
Shooting gets shut down; the defense gets exploited. It can happen to them as much as anyone. As much if not more than everyone. They can play without Canon Katchings. Trey Stuart does pretty well. BYU goes ten deep. But some with seven mop up on everyone, when they play their game.
Anybody else not to win? No, just those blue bloods plus Florida. They are very good.
Okay, on to job hunting and work fairs... The real stuff.
