Serving Jesus Christ and Being Like Him Means Getting Along with Others
Going on a mission for me was good for lessons in serving, socializing, learning, growing.
Some of those people were my teachers at the Missionary Training Center, the speakers, even the barbers or cafeteria workers. The Mission President and his wife would speak to us, too. We learn from all of them. We had a Branch President and his wife, plus maybe some counselors. I think.
We have an assigned companion and classmates. Mine was Elder Neve. He was cool. He learned well and had a good attitude. We had good times. There were the other class and roommates, Elders Standage and Burleson. The former from Salt Lake City, the latter two both from Mesa, Arizona. The four other elders in the class were Elders Houston, Elder Trask, Elder Skiles, and Elfer Patton. Utah, Maryland, Washington, and Arizona. The two sisters from California and Utah, Sisters Dunn and Greene.
Then came the companions in country.
Elder Miguel Antonio Cabrera Rubilar.
Elder Manuel Vera.
Elder Miguel Eduardo Miranda
Elder Pablo Trincado
Elder Patricia Villagra Alarcon
Elder Milton Chaparro
Elder Sergio Olea
Elder T. Bagley
Elder D. Newton
Elder Marco Antonio Rojas Cornejo
Elder D. Watson
Elder T. Potter
Elder J. Manning
Elder Juan Azua
I did splits and mini-transfers with many too, and got to know more in my districts and stakes. And, of course there were the members, the investigators, the everyday people.
Our church leaders, other church members, atheists, seculars, happy, sad, depressed, disgruntled, lazy, hard working... Cheerful or smart, gloomy or dumb. We learn from them all.
And we forget many lessons better remembered.
These names and some memories, growing blurrier...
But God and His Spirit will bring it all back, when needed. When prudent.
Pray for it.
